USMLE Step 1 Policy

  1. Once students have successfully completed all coursework and passed all subject exams in the sophomore year, they must take Step 1 of the USMLE by the calendar date that corresponds to the last day of the first 12-week junior rotation.
  2. Students who have grades of In Progress or Unsatisfactory for sophomore coursework may not take Step 1 until those grades have been remediated. These students will not be permitted to start clinical rotations until they have taken Step 1.
  3. Students who fail to take Step 1 as stipulated above (Item #1), will be required to drop back one year, take Step 1 with the subsequent class, and begin clinical rotations one year late.
