Learning objectives for sophomore year clinical experience
The sophomore year clinical experience will enhance professionalism by establishing a sense of belonging to the medical profession. Students will:
- Develop effective oral and written communication skills with patients, physicians, and staff.
- Know the place and function of obtaining a problem-focused medical history in the outpatient setting.
- Know the place and function of performing a problem-focused physical exam in the outpatient setting.
- Develop effective physical exam skills that are appropriate for a problem-focused history.
- Recognize the significance of continuity of care in an effective medical practice.
- Learn to appreciate that a comprehensive basic science education is integral to providing quality medical care.
- Learn to appreciate the role that evidence-based medicine and life-long learning play in delivering quality medical care.
