The faculty of the Center for Perinatal Biology believe that postdoctoral fellows serve an essential and valuable role in each of the Center's various research programs. Thus, the Center actively recruits postdoctoral fellows from a broad variety of disciplines, and strives to provide a rich training environment that will both provide current and future research opportunities for the fellows, as well as advance the research interests and expertise of the Center. Many fellows come from foreign countries in which case the University's International Student Center together with the School of Medicine's assistant dean for administrative affairs, Loretta Miyasato, can assist in procurement of all necessary visas and work documents. Fellows typically spend a minimum of two years in the Center, with many staying on for an optional third year.
The stipends paid to postdoctoral fellows are generally quite competitive with those offered at other institutions and are generally negotiated directly with the faculty member in whose laboratory the fellow intends to work.
All Center fellows are given a carrel with desk space in the Center's postdoctoral room which includes access to computers, meeting area, copier, blackboards, and even a refrigerator for those special homemade lunches.
All fellows who complete postdoctoral training in the Center receive a diploma signed by all senior Center faculty. At any given time, there are up to a dozen or more fellows in the Center, and over the years we've accumulated a long list of participants in this program. For more information about participating as a postdoctoral fellow in the Center for Perinatal Biology, please contact any Center faculty member.
