Dr. West was born on March 2, 1964, in Redlands Community Hospital, Redlands, California. Born the fourth of ten children, he learned the value of teamwork, cooperation, and optimism. Following his family tradition, he attended Brigham Young University in Utah. After his freshman year he served a two-year proselytizing mission to Argentina for the Latter Day Saints church. After returning from Argentina, he married DeEsta Jensen and started their ever-growing family with the birth of their daughter Karissa. After graduating from Brigham Young University, he entered Loma Linda University School of Medicine, where his interest in plastic surgery continued to grow while working on research projects with Robert Hardesty, MD, dealing with the effects of cigarette smoke on wound healing. During this time, his daughter, Rachelle, was born. Stephen completed his general surgery years at Loma Linda University Medical Center during which time a son, Brandon, and a daughter, Malinda, were born. Stephen was excited about beginning his plastic and reconstructive surgery residency training at Loma Linda University on July 1, 1995. During his residency, Dr. West has given several oral and poster presentations at local, regional, and national meetings. He also traveled to Argentina to work with other plastic surgery residents and perform several operations. In 1995 his daughter Danielle was added to the family. Dr. West distinguished himself during his residency by taking a genuine interest in student teaching and mentoring. Dr. West's evaluations given by the students were always complimentary. Dr. West was accepted to the Loma Linda University Medical Center hand fellowship with the department of orthopedics and started August 1, 1998. Upon completion of his fellowship, Dr. West joined the Kaiser Fontana, Division of Plastic Surgery and is an assistant clinical professor of the Loma Linda University, Division of Plastic Surgery. |
