In a dramatic move of support for Loma Linda University Children's Hospital, local volunteers organized the hospital's first guild, "Big Hearts for Little Hearts." Formed solely for support and enhancement of care given to sick and injured children, Big Hearts for Little Hearts plans to raise funds and coordinate important events for children. "Our goal is to assist the Children's Hospital in providing the world-class care that the Inland Empire deserves and has come to expect from Loma Linda," says guild president Dixie Watkins. To gather effective ideas, Dixie explains, Children's Hospital staff and volunteers have met with some of the most successful volunteer organizations in Southern California. This core team of leaders recently launched a membership tea and hosted the First Annual Taste of the Holidays cooking school fund-raising event benefiting Children's Hospital. "We are thrilled with their success," says Nancy Varner, Children's Hospital Foundation board chair. "We look forward to the day when the Big Hearts for Little Hearts guild has thousands of members spread throughout dozens of chapters in our communities."
