The following are letters from patients written to staff members at Loma Linda University Medical Center.

"Thanks seems like such a small word for the gratitude we feel. The medical care at Loma Linda was superb. Beyond that, your staff was sympathetic and accommodating to our anxious family. Everyone was wonderful, and our son is recovering nicely from his snowboarding accident. God bless you all."

"Thank you for your care. We are deeply blessed because we found a hospital with excellent services. Loma Linda University Medical Center and staff saved my friend's life. God bless you!"

"On behalf of my mother and entire family, I am writing to thank you. Just before noon on Sunday, October 3, 1999, our father was brought to your emergency room after suffering a fall at church. He was treated by the emergency room staff, evaluated by the trauma team, and came under your care when a CT scan was ordered. He died in the intensive care unit the next day.

"We feel that Dad received excellent medical care from the entire staff. However, we believe the care administered by the ER was extraordinary in its compassion and caring. Our mother and all four of us were in the emergency room within a half hour of Dad's arrival, and we were kept informed at all times. Once it became obvious he was terminal, we were told with clarity and professionalism what to expect, and you respected his wishes for treatment. Our father had requested that no heroic measures be taken and was made as comfortable as possible.

"We had 10 to 20 relatives in Dad's room until his death. We cannot say enough about the hospital staff and the consideration with which they treated Dad and all of us. Please let everyone know how much we appreciated everything all of you did for our father. He died with dignity under excellent medical care gently administered by all who came in contact with him."

"I would like you to know that being a patient at Loma Linda has been a decidedly positive experience. I don't spend much time in hospitals although I am not totally unfamiliar with them. In my limited experience, LLUMC is a stellar performer in providing for patient needs beyond the consultation room and the treatment room. Part of that, of course, is due to the staff which, in addition to being demonstrably competent, is also warm and caring. I was very impressed by the fact that a support group for prostate cancer patients meets weekly. Thank you."

"In September, our son was airlifted to your facility. He had a thrombosis in the sinus cavity in the back of his head and a bleeder in the frontal lobe. Needless to say, our whole family was mortified. We would like to express gratitude to the entire PICU for pulling him through. The outcome was miraculous, and we all truly feel that the actions at Loma Linda helped bring our son back to us whole! Thank you. We will never forget how you gave us our son back."

"With the volume of patients you have to handle, I imagine you have likely forgotten this old guy, but I will never forget you and the wonderful care I got from each of you. Your kindness and great nursing skills made my visit to LLUMC as pleasant as it could be. It's now seven weeks since my surgery, and I'm well on the road to recovery. Sending you a lot of hugs, gratitude, and admiration."
