Giving is rewarding
"I went to California to donate a kidney, but I came back with much
more than I gave away. Perhaps that is the age-old lesson we learn by giving."

Giving--whether it be one's time, resources, or in the case of Joe White,
one's self--is rewarding.
At Loma Linda University Medical Center, our staff of health-care professionals
give of themselves every day to bring comfort, healing, and hope to patients
and their families. We value the opportunity to serve those who come here
for care. Providing them with the best in medical care combined with Christian
compassion brings us much satisfaction.
Your partnership with the Medical Center is a blessing too. In addition
to the treatment, research, and educational programs your dollars help
to fund, your support demonstrates your commitment to our mission and
efforts. That means a lot to me, to our staff, and especially to our patients
and their families. Thank you.
Several of these individuals' stories are featured in this issue of Expressions.
Among them is Joe White. On page 16, you will read more about his experience
at Loma Linda and what he received while giving a kidney to his brother.
Also in this issue is the 1997 Annual Report to Donors. We are grateful
for the more than 3,000 individuals, businesses, foundations, and other
organizations who joined us last year in our mission "to make man
whole." Their support totaled more than $2 million, including $650,000
in bequests and planned gifts.
As you read this issue of Expressions, I hope the reward you receive from
your giving--from making a difference in the lives of people--is reinforced.
Thank you again for being an important member of our team. Your partnership
is appreciated.
