1997 Overview
Loma Linda University Behavioral Medicine Center delivers the most advanced and inclusive mental health care in the Inland Empire. The facility holds 89 beds and offers a full range of psychiatric and substance abuse services. The treatment philosophy of the BMC is to strengthen, restore, and renew the patient. The multidisciplinary staff includes psychiatrists, addiction medicine physicians, psychologists, nurses, family therapists, social workers, chaplains, counselors, and adjunctive therapists. BMC is a teaching institute and thus works closely with Loma Linda University
to provide teaching opportunities for medical, nursing, and allied health
students. BMC also provides internship opportunities for students from
the departments of marriage and family therapy, social work, and psychology.

Established a relationship with Kaiser Permanente for inpatient child and adolescent services resulting in 255 patient days Doubled Medi-Cal admissions from Riverside County by establishing closer ties with the County of Riverside Emergency Treatment Services Opened intensive outpatient program for children ages 5-11 Appointed Alan Soderblom, MBA, as administrative director of operations Expanded pain and medication dependency services to treat patients from throughout the United States by becoming a designated referral source for other chemical dependency centers Expanded ability to treat culturally diverse populations by working cooperatively with the U.S. Department of Indian Affairs BMC participated in the healing ministry of Jesus Christ, “to make man whole,” by caring for people in need of emotional and behavioral restoration. In 1997, BMC was active in many community events including Red Ribbon Day, Depression Screening Day, and Anxiety Screening Day. BMC held numerous lectures at schools, churches, and community agencies on issues of parenting, chemical dependency, and mental health. In addition, the hospital has continued to maintain close relationships with various county and local school districts, fire departments, police departments, and judicial agencies. In 1997, Loma Linda University Behavioral Medicine Center offered consultation
and educational services to the Loma Linda Health Care System and the
community, free of charge. Ron Morgan, EdD, MFCC, director of youth services,
and Robin Butler, RNC, director of consultation & education, frequently
spoke at schools, churches, and community groups. Their
