LLUMC strives to train residents in modern clinical medicine combined with care for the whole person. As Jeralyn Brossfield, MD, an LLUMC resident, noted, “Both the institution and individual faculty members promote caring for our patients on an emotional and spiritual level, as well as a physical one.” This integrated approach to medical education attracts highly qualified applicants for the positions available. 1997 highlights Loma Linda University Medical Center trains 520 residents in its graduate medical education programs each year. LLUMC sponsors 34 accredited residency programs: anesthesiology, cardiovascular disease, child neurology, critical care pediatrics, dermatology, diagnostic radiology, emergency medicine, family practice, gastroenterology, hand surgery, internal medicine (including primary care internal medicine), neonatal-perinatal medicine, neurological surgery, neurology, neuroradiology, obstetrics-gynecology, ophthalmology, orthopaedic surgery, otolaryngology, pain management anesthesiology, pathology, pediatric radiology, pediatrics, physical medicine & rehabilitation, plastic surgery, preventive medicine, psychiatry, pulmonary/critical care medicine, radiation oncology, rheumatology, surgery, thoracic surgery, vascular surgery, vascular/interventional radiology, and urology. One combined accredited residency in internal medicine-pediatrics is also available. In addition, various departments sponsor fellowships in addiction medicine, cardiac anesthesiology, forensic psychiatry, international emergency medicine, MOHS dermatology, oral & maxillofacial surgery, pediatric anesthesiology, and pediatric emergency medicine.
