Board of Trustees Report to the Constituencies
1997
Bibliographic databases were moved to web access, inaugurating Webbline in November. Macintosh and PC computers can now access the same information with reliable remote access. The circulation module of Innovative Interfaces Inc., an integrated library system, was implemented in January. With a password, patrons can view their own records for checked-out library material. More databases were added to Webbline, such as Britannica Online. Monthly editions of the new book acquisitions available at the library, as well as the quarterly newsletter, Webb Access, are available electronically on the library web page. To facilitate on-campus access to Webbline, IP authentication was instituted so IDs and passwords are no longer needed. (They continue to be needed for off-campus access to Webbline.) Of 300 entries to Swap & Shop, a subcommittee of the American Library Association, the Library web page was selected Best of Show in its category in June. As current issues of journal subscriptions are received, they are checked in through the integrated library system. Bindery information is also part of the record, so printed lists are no longer generated and placed throughout the library. Archives and special collections made 13 databases available on the web, including indexes about Ellen G. White writings, major special collections, and audiovisual collections. Included are about 2,000 digitized photographs of Loma Linda. Petre Cimpoeru, assistant librarian, is helping Adventist Theological Seminary in Bucharest, Romania, obtain an integrated library system and train local personnel to catalog materials. The Board of Trustees has voted $220,000 for library refurbishing.
This will be completed in phases, with the lobby as phase I.
