SIMS (Students for International Mission Service) is an LLU program that provides service opportunities primarily to its students and faculty. It promotes a Christ-centered global perspective and nurtures a sense of personal concern for others through service activities. SIMS facilitates cross-cultural learning and spiritual growth through experiences in health-care delivery and community development. It is an important part of education at Loma Linda University, providing tangible and effective experiences to the students, and helping to truly ćmake man whole. 1997÷98 academic year highlights Total student SIMS participation: 578 Summer trips abroad: 45 students 20 countries visited: Belize, Botswana, Brazil, Chile, Ecuador, Guatemala, India, Japan, Kenya, Malaysia, Mexico, Pakistan, Peopleās Republic of China, Peru, Philippines, Puerto Rico, Tanzania, Thailand, and Zambia LLU students led out in Community Kids Connection program at SAC-Norton clinic on Sabbath mornings. Approximately 315 LLU students and 315 children participated. Adopt-a-Kid Christmas Party record attendance: 206 Student orientation in Mexico New SIMS Outlook newsletter Brazil, Ecuador, Ethiopia, and Marshall Islands group projects New clinic in Ciudad Obregon, Mexico; supplies donated by SIMS New staff helped to increase SIMS capabilities. Mexico monthly trips were broadened to include more sites. SIMS and the School of Medicine class of 1999 coordinated a Community Garage Sale & International Food Fair, attended by hundreds of community members. El Hongo, Mexico (weekend trips): Approximately 141 weekend participants La Vida, New Mexico: Five medical and 25 dental students, along with two preceptors, offered free physicals to Navajo children at the La Vida Mission School.
