Board of Trustees Report to the Constituencies
1997
The Center for Spiritual Life & Wholeness moved into new quarters in Coleman Pavilion. The Center has already begun its work of research, education, and service by presenting grand rounds, developing a model for spiritual care, and joining in the sponsorship of a major national conference. The two-day conference, ãSpirituality and Ethics in Patient Care,œ drew participants from many parts of the country. The University has begun the development of a wholeness inventory. This instrument will be used for outcomes assessment regarding the Universityâs central values related to wholeness. Terry Swenson, MDiv, was chosen to serve as the Universityâs first campus chaplain. Pastor Swenson comes to the University from the Campus Hill Seventh-day Adventist Church where his focus has been campus ministry. Spiritual life & wholeness committees in each school continued to provide leadership. In the summer of 1997, a faith and learning seminar sponsored by the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists Department of Education, was held at LLU. The focus of this seminar was faith and learning in the context of the health sciences. Participants came from throughout the world. The annual Faculty Colloquy was conducted in September by Jane Thayer,
EdD, of Andrews University, Berrien Springs, Michigan. Dr. Thayer is
director of her universityâs program
