Mission
The department of Medical Center and Childrenās Hospital volunteer services prepares volunteers to provide efficient, effective, and humanistic volunteer services which offers an extra dimension of care and service to patients, families, and visitors, and supportive assistance for the staff.

1997 highlights
Created a new program to involve community awareness of patientsā needs by sewing heart pillows for cardiac patients

Created a new program to involve community awareness of the patientsā needs by knitting lap blankets for oncology patients

A total of 2,652 hours were provided by volunteers at the 1997 annual Health Fair Expo.

New volunteer programs were started in the following areas:
bereavement; cancer resources; Family Medicine Center;
International Circle of Care; primary care; radiation medicine;
social work; wound clinic

A total of 2,872 hours were provided by 463 volunteers at the 1997 Kids Care Fair.

The number of ćSpecial Friendsœ of Childrenās Hospital was increased to 675. These are community schools, churches, Scout groups, and individuals who participate in a variety of programs to assist with the needs of the patients.
