The Jerry L. Pettis Memorial Veterans Medical Center (JLPMVMC) recently celebrated a new location for its Sun City Primary Care Clinic.

The clinic, which provides care to 2,000 veterans, makes VA medical care more accessible and closer to veterans' homes. It will provide primary care, routine laboratory testing, and x-rays. Patients requiring specialty care will be referred to JLPMVMC in Loma Linda.

The Veterans Administration emphasis on outpatient care reflects a trend in American medicine, with new technology allowing many conditions that once required hospitalization to be treated on an outpatient basis.

The clinic is a model for VA hospitals throughout the nation due to the innovative partnership with LLUMC and LLUHC. Physicians and support personnel from LLUHC staff the clinic, and VA administrative staff are on-site weekly to assist veterans in registering.
