Kent A. Hansen was appointed by the Loma Linda University Advent ist Health Sciences Center Board of Trustees as its general counsel, effective June 16. Attorney Hansen will organize and coordinate the legal services of the Health Sciences Center and its core organizations including Loma Linda University, Loma Linda University Medical Center, and Loma Linda University Health Care, according to B. Lyn Behrens, MBBS, president and CEO of LLUAHSC. These services are currently provided by a combination of in-house and outside counsel. "I expect this type of arrangement to continue," says Mr. Hansen. LLUAHSC legal concerns are familiar to Mr. Hansen. He participated in the organization of LLUAHSC from 1995 to 1999 while representing the interests of Loma Linda University. He has served as an attorney for the University since 1979. Mr. Hansen assisted in the separation of the Medical Center from the University in 1980, the separation of La Sierra University in 1990, the reorganization of the School of Dentistry faculty practice plan, and the organization of the faculty practice cor por a tions of the School of Medicine. "It is a rare privilege for an attorney to be able to work with the kind of 'cutting-edge' legal issues of biomedical research, applied technology, clinical practice, managed care, and higher education that are found at Loma Linda in the wonderful context of Christian mission," comments Mr. Hansen. Seventh-day Adventist magazines frequently publish his articles and essays on prayer and spiritual renewal for professionals. His short story, "The Washing," about forgiveness and reconciliation between a physician and a lawyer, won first prize in the Adventist Theological Society's 1997 writing contest.
