| 1960s Duane S. Bietz (SM'65) reports that he is "continuing as an active cardiac, thoracic, and vascular surgeon in Portland, Oregon, with additional duties as medical director of cardiac surgical programs in Bellingham, Washington, and Visalia, California, as well as in Corvallis, Oregon." Dr. Bietz relates that he is spending more of his time in management, and is pursuing the physician-in-management certificate through the American College of Physician Executives. He is also serving as a consultant to the health-care arm of Ernst and Young out of Atlanta, Georgia. His wife, Eunice, is working full-time for Louis Vuitton and Saks Fifth Avenue; their daughter, Michal, is married and running her own rental darkroom business. Their son, Matthew, is an architect with Hassenburg and Associates in Portland, Oregon. Concludes Dr. Bietz: "This may be of some interest to [those at] LLU. My father, Reinhold R. Beitz, is 92 years old, and lives in Vancouver, Washington, a few miles from us. He is former chair of the board of LLU, and is doing quite well." Mauretta Christensen (SAHP'65), who received a degree in medical records administration, writes from Boring, Oregon, that, "After traveling and doing consulting work for 19 years, I now have a great job working for the Oregon Health Sciences University rural trauma grant. I now work at home, abstracting trauma charts for head, liver, and spleen injuries. It's a welcome change from so much travel." Bruce Pence, Sr. (SD'65) was mentioned in a July 16, 1997, article in the Ventura [California] County Star. The newspaper conducted a poll of its readers, and they named Dr. Pence their favorite dentist. The article states that Dr. Pence, whose practice is in Oxnard, welcomes to his office "kids of all ages...where they can get full-service dentistry that includes dentures, implants, fillings, oral surgery, and endodontics." Daniel R. Erhard (SD'69) writes from River Junction, Michigan, that he retired on August 6, 1996, his 54th birthday, and is enjoying retirement. Daniel and Eloyce Erhard 's son, Todd Erhard (SD'96), received his Michigan license in July, 1996. Todd is married to Ana Erhard. They also have a daughter, Tina, who is married to Bryan Hanson. Dr. and Mrs. Erhard traveled for three months in 1997 when they visited 27 states and Canada--a 15,000-mile trip. University
