Continuing dental education division leads the nation
The division of continuing dental education (CDE) once
again sponsored the highest number of continuing dental education programs
and registered the highest number of attendees last year of any university-based
CDE program in the nation, according to Kathleen Moore, director of
continuing dental education.
CDE recently began its fall term with 11 courses attended
by dental professionals from around the world.
Skuli Torfason, DDS, a 1976 School of Dentistry graduate,
and his wife, Ella, who live on the north coast of Iceland, vacationed
in the United States, stayed with relatives in the Loma Linda area,
and attended Loma Linda's continuing education program.
"It's very important for me," he noted, "to
come here for continuing education and be a member of the Seventh-day
Adventist dental community. In Iceland, continuing education classes
are held on the Sabbath."
In addition to individuals, large groups of dental professionals
come from Chile, Colombia, and other Hispanic countries to study dentistry
techniques and materials, translated into their native Spanish language.
The most popular course this year is an eight-month-long
aesthetic dental study club, which filled early and now has a waiting
list.
Professors for the courses are either University faculty,
or visiting professors from around North America and Europe.
