Hip-wear project begins
The Howard and Irene Peterson Tribology Laboratory is beginning an international collaboration with the Karolinska Research Institute in Stockholm, Sweden, to study the effects of cobalt-chrome femoral heads on cobalt-chrome cups. An additional metal-on-metal hip-wear contract was awarded by Ti Perm Medical, Inc., which has developed a titanium-nitride coating for metal implants which, if successful, will render plastic implant components obsolete.
