Norman L. McBride, MBA, joins LLUMC as vice president

Norman L. McBride, MBA, has been named vice president for Loma Linda University Medical Center with responsibilities for Children's Hospital, Cancer Institute, Heart Institute, Transplantation Institute, radiation medicine, Proton Treatment Center, and ambulatory clinics.

Prior to coming to Loma Linda University Medical Center, Mr. McBride served as chief executive officer for Valley View Hospital, an 80-bed facility in Glenwood Springs, Colorado. During his two years at the Colorado hospital, Mr. McBride positioned the hospital for the managed care environment by re-engineering the management structure, implementing a case management system, and significantly increasing cash flow. Under his leadership, the Valley View Hospital successfully passed the JCAHO accreditation survey in September, 1996, scoring a total of 96 out of 100 points.

Mr. McBride has worked for several hospitals in the Adventist health system including serving as chief executive officer at Parkview Memorial Hospital, a 55-bed hospital in Brunswick, Maine, from March, 1988, to May, 1995; chief executive officer at Metroplex Hospital, a 90-bed facility in Killeen, Texas, from January, 1986, to March, 1988; senior vice president at Boulder Memorial Hospital, Boulder, Colorado, from June, 1979, to December, 1985; and in a variety of administrative positions at Shawnee Mission Medical Center, a 373-bed hospital in Shawnee Mission, Kansas, from July, 1972, to August, 1977.

Mr. McBride received a bachelor of science degree in business administration from Andrews University, Berrien Springs, Michigan, in 1972. He earned a master of business administration degree from the University of Missouri, Kansas City, in 1977.

Prior to entering Andrews University, Mr. McBride served in the United States Army as an infantry medic from 1967 to 1969. While in Vietnam, he served as a company medic for the First Calvary, Company D, Fifth Battalion. He was awarded a purple heart, two bronze stars, a combat medical badge, army commendation medal, air medal, good conduct medal, valorous unit emblem, and the Vietnam service medal.

Mr. McBride is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives, and served as a member of the Council on Data Management for the Colorado Hospital Association. Prior to moving to Southern California, Mr. McBride served as an elder in the Glenwood Springs Seventh-day Adventist Church, Glenwood Springs, Colorado.

He is married to Nancy Schwerin McBride, a computer programmer/analyst. They have one son, Lance Ryan, who is married and lives in Grand Terrace.
