Dr. Leslie Pollard named LLU special assistant for diversity

Leslie N. Pollard, DMin
Former senior pastor of the Oakwood College Church in Huntsville, Alabama, Leslie N. Pollard, DMin, has been named special assistant to the Loma Linda University president and director of diversity at Loma Linda University.

Until accepting his new position at Loma Linda University, Dr. Pollard pastored the 2,700-member Seventh-day Adventist Church at Oakwood College.

Dr. Pollard is no stranger to Southern California. Prior to accepting the senior pastor position at Oakwood College in 1994, Dr. Pollard pastored the Kansas Avenue Seventh-day Adventist Church in Riverside from 1987 to 1989. He was associate chaplain at La Sierra University from 1985 to 1987. He also pastored two other churches in Southern California--the Breath of Life Seventh-day Adventist Church, Culver City, 1982 to 1985; and the Delaware Avenue Seventh-day Adventist Church, Santa Monica, 1978 to 1980.

After receiving his undergraduate degree from Oakwood College in 1978, Dr. Pollard attended Andrews University, Berrien Springs, Michigan, where he received a master of divinity degree in 1983.

In 1992, Dr. Pollard received the doctor of ministry degree in homiletics and liturgy from the Claremont School of Theology, Claremont. He is currently completing his doctor of philosophy degree at Andrews University in New Testament language and literature.

Dr. Pollard has been an adjunct professor at Southern Adventist University, Collegedale, Tennessee, and an adjunct professor at Oakwood College.

Sought after as a speaker, Dr. Pollard has presented lectures and talks in many countries around the world including Australia, Ghana, Guyana, India, Nigeria, United Kingdom, and Zimbabwe.

He is the recipient of numerous honors and awards. He is married to the former Prudence LaBeach, PhD. Dr. LaBeach Pollard is a former vice president for technology and human resources. She holds a bachelor of science degree in dietetics, a master's degree in public health from the University of Michigan, and a doctor of philosophy degree in evaluation measurement and research design from Western Michigan University. She is also a registered dietitian and a certified professional in human resources.

The Pollards have two daughters, Kristin, 13, and Karin, 11.
