Children's Hospital premiers informative video on heart surgery
After months of work, Loma Linda University Children's Hospital premiered its video on heart surgery for children on July 28. Titled "Your Child's Heart Surgery," the 15-minute video was designed to better inform parents about what to expect before, during, and after a child undergoes heart surgery at Loma Linda University Children's Hospital.
Sheila Henriques, MN, RN, CNA, nurse manager in pediatric/cardiac ICU and executive producer of the video, commented that it was "felt for a long time that there was a component missing to be able to tell families what to expect when their child has heart surgery. We wanted to make a video to send out to families to watch at home in an atmosphere that is less stressful."
The video stresses the importance of following specific medical directions as it greatly reduces the panic and uncertainty family members can feel when their child is undergoing surgery.
