Leslie N. Pollard, DMin, vice president for diversity, Loma Linda University Adventist Health Sciences Center and special assistant to the president for diversity, Loma Linda University and Medical Center, has edited a book titled Embracing Diversity: How to Understand and Reach People of All Cultures.
The purpose of the book, which was released on May 15, 2000, is to expose leaders to the successful principles, practices, and profiles of cross-cultural leadership competency. It is the editor's hope that this book will be utilized by a wide audience including administrators, church members, civic leaders, educators, evangelists, health-care providers, pastors, politicians, seminary students, and student government leaders.
"Embracing Diversity identifies skills for leaders willing to challenge the limitations of the socially imposed boundaries of race, class, culture, gender, and ethnicity,² says Dr. Pollard. "This book will empower those who read it to function as visionaries of the new millennium. Its articulation of effective principles, practices, and profiles will inspire readers to remove socially constructed blinders.f you want to run the race, rather than sit in the stands, this book will connect you to vital success skills necessary for leading groups in an interconnected, multi-cultural world.²
Seventh-day Adventists are a global family of diverse people groups. The 21st century demands cross-cultural leadership competencies for successful administrations, congregations, institutions, discipleships, classroom instruction, and interpersonal communication. As the world of the 21st century grows increasingly more connected, culturally diverse groups will seek those who demonstrate cross-cultural leadership competency.
