On Tuesday, November 28, Heritage Society members were treated to a luncheon at Wong Kerlee International Conference Center. During the luncheon, a special introduction was given by B. Lyn Behrens, MBBS, president of LLU, and president and CEO of LLUMC. Also included in the luncheon were presentations by Reiner S. Roeske, director, LLUCH Foundation; and Gerald R. Winslow, PhD, special assistant to the president for spiritual life and wholeness, LLU, and dean, Faculty of Religion. Mr. Roeske interviewed Anthony Macias, a Children's Hospital patient who has leukemia, and his mother, Christina Macias, and asked them to tell their story. Dr. Winslow gave a special presentation to the members of the Heritage Society, regarding the institution's emphasis on whole-person care, and how it impacts our patients and students at Loma Linda. During Dr. Winslow's presentation, Wil Alexander, PhD, director, Center for Spiritual Life & Wholeness, interviewed senior medical student Daniel Stanhiser. Membership in the Heritage Society is extended to anyone who includes a gift to Loma Linda University, Loma Linda University Medical Center, and/or LLU Children's Hospital as part of his or her estate plan. Donors who make these types of provisions do so through a bequest in their will, a trust, a gift annuity, pooled income fund participation, a life insurance policy, or other planned gift. Heritage Society members receive Loma Linda University and Medical Center publications, a handsome certificate suitable for framing, and invitations to special recognition events and functions held at the University.
