Profile: Dr. and Mrs. Claran H. Jesse

Dr. and Mrs. Jesse Dr. and Mrs. Claran H. Jesse are both graduates of Loma Linda University. Dr. Jesse graduated from the School of Medicine in 1944, and his wife, Marjorie Andersen Jesse, graduated from the School of Nursing in 1941. The Jesses have three children--two sons and a daughter--and four grandchildren.

In 1954, Dr. Jesse started the department of orthopaedic surgery in the School of Medicine. Four decades since its establishment, the department continues to introduce medical students to the specialty of orthopaedic surgery, teaching physical diagnosis of the musculoskeletal system and reviewing care of common orthopaedic conditions.

Dr. and Mrs. Jesse, long-time supporters and faithful friends of Loma Linda University, recently stated, "We hope our example of giving to Loma Linda University will encourage and stimulate others to give to this fine institution."

Over the years, Dr. and Mrs. Jesse have established several charitable remainder trusts with the University, and they recently established the institution's first charitable lead trust. The Marjorie Andersen Jesse Wing in the School of Nursing is named in honor of Mrs. Jesse in recognition of her many accomplishments. Several areas in the Coleman Pavilion -- School of Medicine building are named after the Jesses.
