Desert Thunder motorcycle ride donates $5,000 to LLUCH

Group with check Ronald Perret (far left), sheriff's deputy chief, and San Bernardino County Sheriff Gary Penrod (far right), present a check for $5,000 to Patti Cotton Pettis (third from left), executive director of the Children's Hospital Foundation, and Kelly Jackson, senior marketing specialist for Loma Linda University Children's Hospital Foundation.

"It's bigger and better every year." That's what San Bernardino County Sheriff Gary Penrod said about the annual Desert Thunder motorcycle run from the Inland Empire to Primm, Nevada. The ride is organized by Desert Thunder, a children's charity non-profit, fund-raising organization sponsored by the sheriff's department. More than 800 bikes took part in the 2003 ride, which first took place in 1996.

The event raised $20,000 distributed to four different children's services: the San Bernardino County Children's Fund; the International Footprint Association Chapter #71 of Morongo Basin; International Footprint Association Chapter #63 of Victorville; and Loma Linda University Children's Hospital Foundation. The event provided $5,000 to each recipient. The sheriff presented the checks on March 18 at the Quaid Harley Davidson Dealership, also a sponsor of the annual ride.
