United States senator commends LLUMC Loma Linda University Adventist Health Sciences Center president and chief executive officer B. Lyn Behrens, MBBS, recently received a letter of commendation from United States senator Barbara Boxer (D-California). The letter from Senator Boxer reads as follows: "I recently read that LLUMC has been designated as one of the 100 best cardiovascular care providers in the country by the Solucient Leadership Institute for the fourth time. Congratulations on this impressive recognition. "I commend your efforts to advance our understanding of cardiovascular disease and ability to treat it. LLUMC upholds a high standard that impacts many lives. Your work makes a difference and is greatly appreciated. "You have my very best wishes for your continued success. Keep up the good work!" Robert Blades, MBA (right), vice president for health care information systems, Loma Linda University Medical Center, was pleased to direct a donation from DAOU Systems director of business development Bill Gannon to the Candlelighters, as Jill Doty, Candlelighters' assistant director accepts. Mr. Blades attended a seminar in Los Angeles earlier this year sponsored by DAOU Systems, which offered a $500 donation to each participant's charity of choice. [Top] Ethical struggles of medical students is topic of bioethics grand rounds
Discussing medical students and their ethical struggles is the subject of the next Bioethics Grand Rounds scheduled to be held Wednesday, April 14, 2004. Jamie Osborn, MD, program director, family practice residency, Loma Linda University, will present "Lack of professionalism or spiritual need? Wholeperson care for the student in ethical crisis." The grand rounds will be held from 12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m. in the A-level amphitheater, Loma Linda University Medical Center. The objectives of this grand rounds are: to explore the relationship between the ethical struggles of medical students and their possible spiritual roots; to examine and discuss a case study of an ethics/professionalism problem in a student which had a spiritual roots and solutions; and engage in a discussion about a possible professionalism remediation model that is distinctly whole-person in nature. Wil Alexander, PhD, professor of family medicine and director of the Center for Spiritual Life & Wholeness, will serve as moderator. The grand rounds, presented by the Center for Christian Bioethics and the Center for Spiritual Life & Wholeness, is designated by the School of Medicine for continuing medical education activity for one hour in category 1 of the Physician's Recognition Award of the American Medical Association. Loma Linda University School of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to sponsor continuing education for physicians. [Top] [email this page]
