New Kiwanis Club formed; Foundation donates
$10,000 to Childrens Hospital
The California/Nevada/Hawaii Kiwanis Foundation donated $10,000
to Loma Linda University Childrens Hospital on Thursday, March
22.
The gift was given in support of the Childrens Hospital pediatric
trauma program. Pediatric trauma is one of many childrens
programs that Kiwanis supports. The gift was presented to Norman
McBride, MBA, vice president, LLUMC, and Connie Cunningham, administrative
director of emergency and trauma services, at the Kiwanis district
meeting held at the Radisson Hotel in San Bernardino.
The CA-NEV-HA Foundation benefits four childrens hospitals
in California, with special emphasis on prevention.
Their focus on pediatric trauma gives tremendous support to
our program here and has the promise of further benefit to the Childrens
Hospital in the future, says Mr. McBride.
Kiwanis is a worldwide community service organization with more
than 300,000 members. Kiwanis clubs accomplish their goals through
sponsorship of a wide range of projects. Each club selects its projects
depending upon the particular needs of the individual community.
While projects vary from one club to another, representative projects/recipients
of support include Childrens Miracle Network, Worldwide Eradication
of Iodine Deficiency Disorder, Meals on Wheels, YMCA, Adopt-A-Highway,
Special Olympics, and college scholarships.
At the same district meeting, a new Kiwanis Club was chartered to
meet the needs of young people in Loma Linda. The new club is sponsored
by the Kiwanis Club of Yucaipa. The club currently meets every Tuesday
at 7:00 a.m. at the Dennys Restaurant located just off of
Interstate 10 at Alabama Street.

Redlands Police Department brings Easter egg
hunt to Childrens Hospital
On Friday, April 13, the Redlands Police Department brought an
Easter egg hunt to the units of Loma Linda University Childrens
Hospital.
Police officers and a big white bunny walked from room to room on
the units, handing out toys, books, and eggs filled with stickers.
Four-year-old Adrian Gabriel couldnt get enough of the Easter
bunny, touching its ears and asking it questions. When an officer
handed him a book about the Easter bunny, he turned to the bunny
and said, That you, bunny?
Long after the officers had left his room, Adrians face would
suddenly appear peeking around a corner as he checked to see what
the bunny was up to.
The officers visited children on units 4800 and 5800 and acute care.
Its heart-wrenching, but it just makes me feel so good,
said Ken Wright, corporal in charge of the Redlands Police Departments
Brookside substation. Theres got to be people who can
come do this for these kids and these families. They need it.
Cpl. Wright organized the event with the help of fellow officers
Karen Caldwell and Alicia Casteneda.
