Public affairs receive five PRSA awards

At the annual Public Relations Society of America–California Inland Empire chapter awards banquet, several members of the office of public affairs won awards. Members of the office of public affairs received five awards at the annual awards banquet hosted by the Public Relations Society of America-California Inland Empire chapter.

The banquet was held Wednesday evening, April 21, at the historic Sycamore Inn at Rancho Cucamonga. Dustin R. Jones, special projects editor, office of University relations, Loma Linda University, received the Capella Award for his work on the 2002 Adventist Health International Annual Report. Richard H. Hart, MD, DrPH, chancellor of Loma Linda University, serves as executive editor for the annual report.

Molly Riter, marketing specialist, department of marketing, Loma Linda University Medical Center, was awarded the Polaris Award for Healthy Tomorrow, the LLUMC community health newsletter. Dawn Chilson, graphic/ layout designer, marketing department, LLUMC, serves as designer for Healthy Tomorrow.

Patricia K. Thio, special projects editor, office of University relations, LLU, was presented with the Polaris Award for her story "LLU receives research grant." The story, referring to a recent Alzheimer's grant received by the School of Medicine, was published in the Autumn, 2002, issue of Scope.

Richard W. Weismeyer, director, office of University relations, Loma Linda University, was awarded the Polaris Award for his work on Kids Konnection, a publication of Loma Linda University Children's Hospital Foundation. Patti Cotton Pettis, executive director of the foundation, serves as the executive editor for that publication.

Heather Wolfe, marketing specialist, department of marketing, LLUMC, received the Polaris Award for her work on the Spanish radio show "Cita Con Su Medico," the Spanish version of the "Ask Your Doctor" radio show.

Awards were judged by Public Relations Society of America members from other chapters and were designed to recognize outstanding public relations achievements from throughout the previous year. The Inland Empire chapter presents two awards, the Capella Award for achievement in public relations and the Polaris Award for superior achievement in public relations.
