Innerweave: The Wholeness Story

In these days which hold so much of pain and loss it is curious to note in the television reporting of it all how difficult it is for men to show what they feel. A recent photo of President Bush holding the daughter of a man killed in the 9-11 New York tragedy showed in his face the depth of what he was feeling...he was almost in tears. I thought of a poem written by one of my former seminary students about "Men who cannot cry:"

I ache for men who cannot cry. who for whatever reason, bottle their pain in stiff-lipped containers, who twist inside, contort the soft framework of their souls so as not to let a tear slip from their eyes to wash the hurt away.

If all the tears that might have been, should have been shed were spilled now at once, we would be awash in waves of sorrow and relief."
