Dedication service for SM scheduled for February 13

The annual School of Medicine dedication service for first-year students in the Loma Linda University School of Medicine is scheduled for Friday, February 13, at 7:30 p.m. in Gentry Gymnasium. Randy Roberts, DMin, senior pastor of the University Church of Seventh-day Adventist will give the dedication address. Loma Linda University, Loma Linda University Medical Center employees, and the public are cordially invited to attend.

Loma Linda's dedication service calls on students to commit themselves to a life of service that is motivated by a commitment to God. The service includes musical selections by students and a recitation of the School of Medicine Physician's Oath. Each student receives a leather-bound Bible embossed with the Loma Linda University School of Medicine name and emblem.

The first freshman dedication service was held in 1989 at the initiation of medical students and has since become an annual tradition. Even though student attendance is voluntary, between 85 and 90 percent of the first-year class typically attend. The dedication comes at the end of family day when family members and friends come from around the country and world to get a taste of medical school life, and view the campus.
