Representatives from Mission College, Thailand, visit LLU

Joyce W. Hopp, PhD (third from right), dean of the School of Allied Health Professions, Loma Linda University; and Marilyn Davidian, MS, chair, department of health information management (second from right), visit with administrators from Mission College, Muak Lek, Thailand. They are (from left) Sunipa Sormin, associate director for marketing and development; Gilbert M. Valentine, PhD, vice president for academic administration; Siriporn Tantipoonwinai, PhD, president; and Simon Sim, MBA, vice president for financial administration.

While visiting the Loma Linda University campus on Tuesday, February 5, representatives from Mission College, Muak Lek, Thailand, met with various LLU administrators and signed an agreement establishing a formal connection between the two schools.

Proposing a connection with Loma Linda University, the Mission College administrators focused on the health and science credits offered at their school that would transfer easily into the LLU system.

“Mission College's computer information science and business administration programs would move well into our master's of health information administration program,” says Marilyn Davidian, MA, associate professor and chair, department of health information management, School of Allied Health Professions.

“The science program at Mission College is the best-kept secret in the Adventist system,” shares Gilbert M. Valentine, PhD, vice president for academic administration, Mission College. “By establishing an agreement with Loma Linda University, we hope to formalize transfer of credits and give our students wider options.”

The tentative plans would also include a faculty exchange program, giving LLU professors the opportunity to teach in Thailand and enriching the educational experience for students at Mission College.

Recently renovated and expanded, the Mission College campus was designed to accommodate 2,000 students. With a student population of 370, the school is growing rapidly and actively recruiting students to fill its classrooms. An agreement with Loma Linda University would increase academic choices at Mission College.

“We have a strong international faculty, with 17 different nationalities represented,” comments Sunipa Sormin, associate director for marketing and development, Mission College.

With students from around the world, including Australia, Cambodia, Europe, Laos, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, the United States, and Vietnam, the school provides a unique setting for learning and understanding different cultures.

Mission College is the union of three institutions—the Bangkok Adventist Hospital School of Nursing (established 1941), Mission College (established in late 1988), and Southeast Asia Union College (established 1908) in Singapore.
