LLU School of Allied Health ProfessionsNutrition and dietetics holds pinning ceremony
Family and friends of the 2004 nutrition and dietetics graduating class gathered Saturday evening, June 12, to witness a pinning ceremony. The event was held in the University Church chapel, honoring the graduates for their achievements. Faculty from the department of nutrition and dietetics and the School of Allied Health Professions also participated in the ceremony. Craig R. Jackson, JD, MSW, dean, School of Allied Health Professions, welcomed guests and praised the graduates. "Tonight is a rite of passage, a transition," Dr. Jackson remarked to the graduates at the event. "We bid you farewell, but you are still in our hearts and minds." Cindy Kosch, MS, RD, assistant professor, department of nutrition and dietetics, was guest "Tonight, you will be taking," Ms. Kosch stressed in her speech, "but it is what you now begin giving that is really important. Giving to those with whom you come in contact, giving of your lives." She urged the graduates to become an active part of their communities, to slow down the taking and speed up the giving, and never to be afraid to give all that they have. The pinning ceremony then took place, as department chair Bertrum Connell, PhD, RD, FADA, called each individual to the front. While the graduates were pinned by faculty members or colleagues who have significantly impacted their education, Dr. Connell read a brief biography of the students' accomplishments and their future plans. Special awards were also distributed during the evening. Masako Harada, Yean Lee, Tracy Li, and Amanda Parangue received Faculty Recognition Awards. Lorilene Vandell received the Scholastic Achievement Award.
