Natural science professor elected president of AASP

Robert Cushman, PhD, chair of natural sciences department, was elected president of the American Association of Stratigraphic Palynologists, Inc. (AASP). AASP is an international organization of scientists in the academia industry and government who study ancient plants (pollen and spores produced by the plants preserved in rocks.)

"It's an honor to be elected, and I look forward to serving," says Dr. Cushman. "It's a great group of people."

Established in 1967, AASP promotes the science of palynology and has a worldwide membership of 800 that is run by an executive comprising an elected board of directors and subsidiary boards and committees.

Currently, Dr. Cushman is studying tectonics (how mountains are formed) at the Green River formation in Wyoming. In addition to being the chair and a professor in the natural sciences department, he coaches the men's basketball team at Mesa Grande Academy and enjoys spending time with his wife, Judy, and sons, Ryan and Matthew.
