Eight employees from Loma Linda University Adventist Health Sciences Center entities were winners in the Rideshare annual get-away weekend drawing.

Employees from Loma Linda University Medical Center, East Campus, and University Health Care who received recognition were Barbara Alexander, an employee working on unit 3200 in the Medical Center; Richard Bennett, a mail room employee; Ann Anderson, University Health Care employee; and Jerald Alido, East Campus employee.

Ms. Alexander carpools nearly every day to work. "Carpooling saves wear and tear on my vehicle," she says. "I really appreciate the many benefits that Loma Linda offers for allowing us to participate in the Rideshare program." Mr. Bennett takes the Omni bus to work most days. "Riding the bus is relaxing. It give me time to read a good book or just relax."

Ms. Anderson signed up for the program to not only help the environment, but also to take advantage of the many benefits offered through the Rideshare program.

East Campus employee Jerald Alido says that by participating in the Rideshare program, it gives "me a sense of contributing to the environment and helping to improve my health at the same time." Mr. Alido walks to work most days of the week. Loma Linda University winners were Scott Guptill, an employee at University printing services; Meijuan Tang, information systems employee, Nicole Cheatham, University relations special projects editor; and Jennifer Campos-Nez, a School of Dentistry employee.

Mr. Guptill rides his bicycle to work each day. "I enjoy the morning fresh air. It is a real plus not to have to look for a parking space." Ms. Tang has been participating in the Rideshare program since March, 2001, by walking to work. "Walking is such a good way to get to work especially when you live in Loma Linda," she says.

Winner of the get-away weekend $250 prize is Nicole Cheatham. Ms. Cheatham has been carpooling to work for approximately two years. "I enjoy the fellowship time spent in going to and from work," Ms. Cheatham says, "and with the rising cost of fuel, the gas coupons helps keep our transportation costs down."

Ms. Campos-Nez is in a three-person carpool and commutes from Ontario daily. "I love the extra day off with pay each quarter by participating in this level of the Rideshare program," Ms. Campos-Nez says.

Information about the Rideshare program may be obtained by calling the security office at extension 44319 and asking to speak to one of the Rideshare coordinators.
