School of Public Health Awards and Recognition Dinner

| The School of Public
Health honored a number of individuals during its annual Awards and
Recognition Dinner, held on Thursday evening, March 11. Pictured standing
above is Melodee Newbold, associate director of extended programs,
School of Public Health, who was largely responsible for organizing
Healthy People, '99 events, including the banquet. |
Albert Whiting,
MD, MPH (left), gives a short acceptance speech after being honored
with the School of Public Health Distinguished Service Award. Looking
on are his wife, Carol Faye Whiting, and Dr. Hart. Also receiving
the School's Distinguished Service Award was Hanni Bennett, research
associate in the Center for Health Research. Ms. Bennett was unable
to attend. (See article.) |

| Dorothy
Wareham, a local musician, provides a piano background to the evening
festivities. Also providing dinner music earlier in the evening were
members of the Sterling String Quartet. |
During
the evening's activities, the San Bernardino County department of
health was honored for its partnership with Loma Linda in a number
of areas. Members of the staff were called forward, beginning with
Thomas J. Prendergast Jr., MD, MPH (far left), director of the health
department and adjunct instructor in the School of Public Health. |

MD, DrPH (left), dean of the School of Public Health and master of
ceremonies for the banquet, reads the plaque naming Harley Stanton,
DrPH, as School of Public Health Alumnus of the Year. (See article.) |

MPH, MS (left), assistant professor of nutrition, School of Public

At one point in the banquet program,
Dr. Hart asked that all of the students who were planning to graduate
in the last class of the 20th century stand and be recognized. |
