Baby Hannah receives autographed memorabilia from the Dixie Chicks
Whenever a song by the Dixie Chicks (a country music band) comes on, two-year-old heart transplant recipient Hannah Grinnan starts to wiggle. News of her love for the band reached the ears of Tom Hoit, the general manager of country music station KFRG 95.1, and inspired him to plan a special surprise for the tiny fan. On Thursday, April 13, he, morning radio personalities Bo Wintrow and Scott Ward (the Frogmen in the Morning), and Mr. KFRG (the frog mascot) came to Loma Linda University Children's Hospital to deliver an autographed cutout of the Dixie Chicks and a basketful of KFRG goodies, including a stuffed frog that Hannah decided to share with a little girl who watched the proceedings from her patient wagon in the lobby. Radio station personnel make between 700 and 800 appearances in the community each year, says operations manager Ray Massie, so their visit to the Children's Hospital wasn't exactly out of the ordinary. "But it's really special today, especially when you see a child as young as Hannah who was 11 days old when she had the transplant to be as healthy and moving around as well [as she is], it really gives credit to the work that's done at the Children's Hospital."
