Loma Linda Univerity & Medical Center advised on selection of philanthropic gift planning strategies Loma Linda University and Medical Center have recently initiated Financial Advisors, a voluntary organization. "The mission of the Financial Advisors organization is to support financial and legal professionals in advising their clients regarding the selection of philanthropic gift planning strategies as a part of wealth planning and estate planning," says J. Russell Raker III, PhD, administrative director for advancement. "Financial Advisors seek to become the region's preeminent provider of specialized education and awareness of professionals' educational and informational needs in the areas of wealth planning, estate planning, and gift planning. "The vagaries of the market notwithstanding, during the past decade or so many more Americans than ever before are faced with critical decisions about personal wealth," Dr. Raker continues. "As a result, individuals' needs for expert counsel in the areas of pension and retirement planning have increased. This is reflected in an urgency on the part of financial counselors to obtain advanced education and training and to remain informed of important legislative, regulatory, and strategic aspects of their fields." Volunteer chair of the Financial Advisors is Douglas F. Welebir, Esq., senior partner of the Redlands law firm of Welebir, McCune & Jure. "Philanthropy will continue to play a key role in the region's development," Mr. Welebir says, "but to keep pace with the needs and to solve tough regional problems, we will need to develop a heightened awareness of philanthropy's role, and develop new, innovative gifting strategies." Financial Advisors is a voluntary organization, Dr. Raker states. There are no direct obligations to Loma Linda University and Medical Center as a result of membership. Attorneys, certified public accountants, financial planners, and other professionals who assist their clients with wealth planning, estate planning, and charitable gift planning are accorded membership by invitation.
