State Assemblyman Russ Bogh took a facility tour on Monday, September 16. Michael Jackson, MPH, senior vice president for Loma Linda University Adventist Health Sciences Center, and John Lewis, director of government relations for Loma Linda University Medical Center, accompanied Assemblyman Bogh through his visits to the Children's Hospital, guided by Shirley Barnett, RN, MBA, executive director of nursing, Loma Linda University Childern's Hospital.
The tour group met Jerry Slater, MD, chair of the department of radiation medicine, in front of the Proton Treatment Center model on the lobby level in the Children's Hospital hallway. Dr. Slater provided an insightful visit to the Proton Treatment Center, answering Assemblyman Bogh's questions. Of most concern to Assembleyman Bogh was the issue of waste material storage, and he was impressed to hear the Proton Treatment Center produces no radioactive waste.
