School of Dentistry to host 30th anniversary implant dentistry symposium November 12 to 16
It was 30 years ago that Robert James, DDS, had the vision of initiating an implant dentistry program at Loma Linda University. Since its inception, more than 65 students have completed the program.
The program has evolved significantly since its inception in 1976. In 1990, a master track was incorporated into the certificate program and in 1992 an internship program (formerly known as a preceptorship) was integrated into the curricula. In 1995, a fellow program for specialists only was also added to the program’s educational offerings.
Many of the current leaders in implant dentistry have graduated from the program at Loma Linda and many others are in the process of becoming the future leaders in implant dentistry.
A celebration marking the 30th anniversary of the implant dentistry program at LLU will take place in two parts: the first will feature a symposium, “Achieving esthetics with immediate function: the multidisciplinary expert approach,” to be held November 12 and 13, 2006, in Palm Springs. Lectures for the symposium will be presented by renowned speakers and are open to the public.
The second part of the celebration will take place November 14 to 16, 2006, at Loma Linda University, with lectures presented by School of Dentistry alumni to current students and alumni. For more information, access <www. llu.edu/llu/dentistry/cde/courses/>.
