The Loma Linda University Cancer Institute held the sixth annual celebration for women cancer survivors on October 18, titled Cooking Up a Cure. More than 300 people attended the event, held in Wong Kerlee International Conference Center.

Dolores Esparza, clinical director of the institute, welcomed and served as the emcee for the evening, introducing

the speakers. The speakers included Judy Chatigny, executive director for the Cancer Institute, Sharon Lum, MD, director of the LLUCI Breast Health Center, and Beverly Kirkhart, co-author of Chicken Soup for the Surviving Soul.

Ms. Chatigny announced the expansion of cancer services at Loma Linda University Cancer Institute beginning in April of 2007. Dr. Lum provided a history on the treatment of breast cancer and helped provide a context for the progress that has been made in the field, especially within the last 20 years. Ms. Kirkhart offered the keynote address.
