SPH sponsors American Health Care Congress

The second annual American Health Care Congress takes place Tuesday, October 18, 2005, from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Ontario Convention Center in Ontario, California.

This conference is designed to examine the impact of health care on the community and to identify solutions to current health care problems. Means of implementing those solutions on local and national levels will be discussed. The Congress will also address the need for reducing the financial burden of health care on families, businesses, and public agencies.

Everyone is invited to attend the Congress, including the media and the general public. Other specific groups include public health educators, policy makers, clinicians, and students as well as community health care organizations, foundations, and their governing boards and executive staffs.

Robert Brook, MD, ScD, FACP, of the RAND Corporation is this year’s keynote speaker. Dr. Brook led the Health and Quality Group on the $80 million health insurance experiment and was co-principal investigator on the health services utilization study. He was the co-principal investigator on the only national study that has investigated, at a clinical level, the impact of diagnostic related groups on quality and outcome of acute hospital care.

National and state health care authorities will present lectures, workshops, and a panel discussion in addition to Dr. Rand’s presentations.

The Congress is presented by Loma Linda University School of Public Health, Loma Linda University Medical Center, CodeBlueNow!, and Inland Empire Health Plan. Sponsors include the Institute for Healthcare Advancement (signature sponsor), the California Endowment, the City of Ontario, First 5 of San Bernardino, San Bernardino Community Hospital, and Vista Guidance Center.

For those interested in attending, early registration (on or before September 23) is $45, and late registration (after September 23) is $60. Students and senior citizens may register for $25; after September 23, their cost rises to $35. Recommended lodging is the Doubletree Hotel Ontario Airport, adjacent to the Ontario Convention Center. A reduced rate is available for those attending the Congress.
