Loma Linda Lopers to partner with Drayson Center
Early Sunday morning on September 25, the Loma Linda Lopers will assemble for the first time at their new home at Loma Linda University Drayson Center.
The well-recognized running club, organized in 1977, is the second largest club of its kind in California, with membership swelling to near 1,000 during some years, according to Jim Walling, who heads the organization.
Many of the Lopers use the running club to train for various running competitions and events, including the LA Marathon. With their bright pink club shirts, the Lopers are hard to miss.
The Lopers have been meeting at the old Gentry Gym on campus for some time now.
However, with the imminent demolition of Gentry Gym to make room for the new Centennial Complex, the Lopers were soon to be without a home.
Since Drayson Center has been managing the Gentry Gym and has already established a working relationship with the Lopers, the move to Drayson Center seemed most logical.
Drayson Center opens on Sundays at 5:30 a.m. from now on to accommodate the running club. The facility will serve as a meeting place for the Lopers to conduct their program, stretch, and shower.
With the exception of the aquatics area, the entire facility will open at that time for all Drayson Center members, closing only for special events, or for established holidays.
