Loma Linda University Health Sciences Center loss control and safety held the annual safety coordinators awards luncheon on January 23 in Wong Kerlee International Conference Center to recognize the safety efforts made in each of the entities composing Loma Linda University Adventist Health Sciences Center.

All safety coordinators were treated to a catered, Hawaiian-themed meal for their work during 2006. Besides the meal, each safety coordinator received a personal emergency health pack loaded with basic first aid and survival supplies courtesy of Loma Linda University Health Services administration.

Six safety coordinator of the year awards were presented by Mark Hubbard, senior vice president, human resource management and risk management, and the administrative representatives from each of the entities as George Johnston, PhD, assistant vice president, served as host and emcee along with Donna Gurule, MPH, director of hazardous materials safety.

Mr. Hubbard thanked the safety coordinators in the room for an outstanding job over the past year. Even as staff grew overall around campus, through their efforts the percentage of accidents in 2006 went down.

The safety awards went to Renee Ratcliff for Behavioral Medicine Center safety coordinator of the year for 2006; Linda Whiting, East Campus Hospital safety coordinator of the year for 2006; DeWayne Reeves, Loma Linda University Medical Center safety coordinator of the year for 2006; Deborah Stitzinger, Loma Linda University Medical Center clinical safety coordinator of the year for 2006; Charles “Billy” Hewitt, Loma Linda University safety coordinator of the year for 2006; and Brandi Benak, University Health Care safety coordinator of the year for 2006.
