Volunteers staff the phonelines as the Stater Bros./K-FROG 95.1 FM “K-FROGGERS for Kids Radiothon” raised more than $608,000 to provide cancer treatment for the children of our community at Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital.
When the final tally for the sixth annual Stater Bros./K-FROG 95.1 “K-FROGGERS for Kids Radiothon” finally came in, organizers and volunteers of the two-day event could hardly believe their eyes.

Not only had they raised a record-breaking $608,000 for children’s cancer treatment at Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital, but they’d accomplished that in a time when a weakened national housing market was stirring questions about the economy.

More than 80 volunteers from numerous organizations joined radio personalities for the marathon event inside the food court at the Ontario Mills shopping center. The volunteers fielded calls from all over Southern California as disc jockeys and other celebrities urged listeners to open their hearts and their wallets to the needs of children with cancer.

As a joint venture between the Stater Bros. retail grocery chain and K-FROG 95.1 FM, monies raised in the K-Froggers for Kids program go to benefit unit 4800 at Children’s Hospital.

According to a statement released by the popular country radio station, K-FROGGERS recently provided all new beds for unit 4800, the hematology/oncology/stem cell transplant ICU at Children’s Hospital. “These high-tech beds have a built-in scale,” the statement continued. “Nurses have to weigh the cancer patients every day. Now they can do it without even waking the child up. The beds also transform into a lounge chair and stretch or shorten to accommodate the patient’s height. Our radiothon also provided several new cardiac monitors” and stocked the playroom with new video games.

The statement noted that “struggling families often can’t afford the life-saving treatment their child may need” and went on to note that “Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital is committed to providing treatment for every child, regardless of ability to pay. This state-of-the-art facility embraces and guides the whole family through the traumatic fight against childhood cancer. LLUCH is recognized in medical circles as a leader in clinical research and treatment of pediatric cancer.”

Zareh Sarrafian, MBA, administrator of Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital, expressed the gratitude of the entire Children’s Hospital administration and staff by noting that “every year, the Stater Bros./K-FROG 95.1 FM ‘K-FROGGERS for Kids Radiothon’ sets new records! The dedication and enthusiasm of its staff, and the generosity of its listeners, continue to help countless kids feel better, get better. We are humbled and blessed to call Stater Bros. and K-FROG our friends.”
