Rocky Edwards and Jon Richert of BidRiteAutos.com decided to put their commitment to helping kids into action, so they agreed to donate a portion of the profits from each auto they sell to benefit the patients of Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital.
Jon Richert and Rocky Edwards decided to demonstrate their thanks for the health of their children in a very tangible way.

As partners in one of the Inland Empire’s most innovative automobile dealerships, the two men believe in helping the children of their community. But unlike some of their competitors, they espouse and practice the notion that charity begins at home.

“What better way to make a difference than helping children right here in the Inland Empire?” Mr. Richert asks. “We decided to donate a portion of the gross profits from every sale we make to Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital.”

Both Mr. Richert and Mr. Edwards experienced first-hand the agony and anxiety that often attend having one’s child hospitalized. Fortunately, the excellent care and service they received at Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital led to favorable outcomes; in other words, their kids are fine. During the time when their offspring were undergoing treatment at Children’s Hospital, both men observed other kids whose families, for a variety of reasons, were not able to visit them.

“I can’t imagine how that must feel,” Mr. Edwards observes. “It’s bad enough to be a kid in the hospital, but it must be awful if nobody can come to visit. We hope our donation program will endow a visitation program to make sure that no child has to feel neglected while in the hospital.”

Besides being compassionate friends of children, Mr. Richert and Mr. Edwards are also friends of the car-buying public. When they opened BidRiteAutos.com on June 1, 2007, they were determined to help everybody be able to afford a good car.

“Let’s face it,” Mr. Richert says, “we know what it’s like to be without a job. We lived off our savings for 14 months while we were getting ready to open BidRite. We decided to make it our mission to help people who are struggling financially. We specialize in helping people in trouble, such as all the folk who are hurting right now because of the real estate bubble.”

His partner explains the details by asserting that “we can get financing for anyone. We work with a number of banks and finance companies, and we even carry our own paper for customers the banks turn down. We can even get financing for people from other countries.

“We feel we owe it to our community to give back in some meaningful way,” Mr. Edwards offers. “Kids are very important to us. Besides our own families, we’re involved with a youth group at church and with the Boy Scouts. This is where we live and who we are.”

Tiffany Hoekstra, major gifts officer for Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital, says that LLUCH sincerely appreciates the generosity of local business and corporate partners like BidRite Autos.com.

“These men are true heroes for children,” Ms. Hoekstra explains. “Children’s Hospital serves a geographical area containing 1.2 million children. Each year, more than 100,000 hurt or sick children utilize our services and more than 11,000 of them stay overnight.

“We are a major pediatric teaching facility for students from the LLU Schools of Medicine and Nursing, as well as for individuals in other health professions. We really couldn’t do what we do without the help of people like Jon Richert and Rocky Edwards!”

Mr. Richert summarizes BidRite’s philosophy of doing business in these terms: “What do we offer our customers? The same thing we’d want if we were buying a car; namely, the best price, best vehicle, best financing, no hassle, one-stop shopping, and giving back to the community.”
