East Campus employees �step it up� on way to better health

East Campus employees really “stepped it up” this spring on their way to better health and prizes, too. 

Olivia Moses, DrPH, wellness program administrator for Loma Linda University Health Services, challenged East Campus employees to track their steps daily with a pedometer. They could also form teams of four to compete for prizes given for the most steps recorded in an online registry from March 3 through May 31.

The winning team, which called itself “XRaded,” walked an incredible 4,450,365 steps. The top individual walker was Nilda Tedja, who logged 2,245,155 steps. The winners were honored at an awards ceremony held in the East Campus park on June 10. 

The East Campus wellness program grew out of extensive individual health assessments that showed areas of greatest interest and need among the employees. Another round of the pedometer program will begin soon, as will weight management, smoking cessation, and other wellness programs. Award winners were:

First place, with 4,450,365 steps:  Xraded—Peter Le, Naoki Miyajima, Andrew Smith, and Howard Watts
Second place, with 4,235,958 steps:  Speedy Crawlers—Eleanor Wong, Maureen Le Danseur, Nilda Tedja, and Kelly Evans
Third place, with 4,053,356 steps:  Xrayted—Henry Cardoza, Clayton Aceres, Tyler Cornish, and Nibia Diaz
