Edna Mae Winegar celebrates 101st birthday

Edna Mae Winegar, a resident of Linda Valley Villa, celebrated her 101st birthday on July 15.
Edna Mae Winegar, a resident of Linda Valley Villa, celebrated her 101st birthday on July 15. Born in Oklahoma in 1907, four months before Oklahoma became a state, Ms. Winegar worked for many years as a practical nurse at Washington Adventist Hospital in Takoma Park, Maryland. During World War II, she worked nights at Walter Reed Hospital, and drove a taxi in Washington, D.C. Later she married Berlin Winegar and the couple had two sons, Fred Elton and Walter Dillard. All have predeceased Ms. Winegar.
Children from the Loma Linda Children’s Center helped Ms. Winegar celebrate her birthday by dressing up in feathers and Indian vests to celebrate her being born in Indian territory before Oklahoma became a state.
