LLU chapel speakers for February 1, 8 announced
The Loma Linda University chapel programs for February 1 and February 8 are set to feature a speaker from the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists and a college chaplain from Santa Barbara.
Ella Louise Smith-Simmons, EdD, vice president, General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists, will be the speaker for the February 1 chapel program. This chapel is sponsored by the Black Health Professionals Student Association.
Dr. Smith-Simmons is the first woman and first African-American to fill the position of vice president for the General Conference. Until recently she served as provost/vice president at La Sierra University, Riverside, California. Prior to that she was vice president of academic affairs at Oakwood College, Huntsville, Alabama.
Ben Patterson, campus chaplain, Westmont College, San
ta Barbara, California, is the chapel speaker for February 8.
Chaplain Patterson has been the senior pastor of Westmont for the past five years. A contributing editor to Christianity Today and the Leadership Journal, he has written several books: Serving God (The Grand Essentials), Waiting, Deepening Your Conversation with God, and a Prayer Devotional Bible.
His most recent work, which was released in February 2005, is titled He Has Made Me Glad.
Loma Linda University chapel programs are sponsored by the office of student affairs and are held in University Church on the Loma Linda campus. Programs are held every Wednesday from 11:10 a.m. to 12:00 noon. All students, faculty, and staff of Loma Linda University are encouraged to attend.
