Patricia Emmerson, RDH (right), was named dental hygiene Alumna of the Year for 2006. The award was presented to her by Kris Wilkins, RDH, chair dental hygiene, during the dental hygienists and assistants luncheon on Friday, February 10.
Patricia Emmerson, a 1961 dental hygiene graduate, has been named dental hygiene alumna of the year for 2006. Ms. Emmerson entered the dental hygiene program in the School of Dentistry in the late 1950s while she was the mother of two young children. Her goal was to continue to work with her husband in his dental office.
Every day, she made the 50-mile journey to the School of Dentistry, traveling on a two-lane mountain pass road. She excelled in school and was voted president of her graduating class.
After completing her degree, Ms. Emmerson practiced dental hygiene in her husband’s dental office. She also enjoyed teaching dental health education, serving schools in her community. She has made significant contributions of her time, resources, and expertise to further the mission of the School of Dentistry and the department of dental hygiene. Committed to dental mission service, she traveled to China with the “People to People” delegation, a group of dentists and dental hygienists, where they performed dental mission work.
The Dental Hygiene Alumna of the Year Award was presented to her during the dental hygienists and assistants luncheon, on February 10.
The plaque given to her reads: “Dental hygiene alumni of Loma Linda University honor Patricia Emmerson, RDH, as dental hygiene Alumna of the Year for her years of dedication and support to the department of dental hygiene. We honor our respected colleague and God’s humble servant. Loma Linda, California, February 10, 2006.”
