World-renowned vocal artist to be presented in April 8 concert
World-renowned vocal artist Wintley Phipps will be presented in concert on Sabbath afternoon, April 8, at 4:00 p.m. at Loma Linda University Drayson Center.
Pastor Phipps was born in Trinidad, West Indies, and raised in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. He attended Kingsway College, a Christian academy; Oakwood College in Huntsville, Alabama, where he received a bachelor of arts degree in theology; and Andrews University in Berrien Springs, Michigan, where he earned a master of divinity degree.
A spirit-filled preacher, world-renowned vocal artist, and innovative initiator of special projects, Pastor Phipps is the founder, president, and chief executive officer of the U.S. Dream Academy, Inc., a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing an online, values-based, interactive tutorial and remedial education program targeted to at-risk children and youth utilizing community family learning centers.
Pastor Phipps is a humanitarian and visionary with competence in the deployment of human resources, and motivational capacity that inspires others to excellence and the realization of life goals.
He currently serves on the board of directors of Citizens’ Scholarship Foundation of America and has served on several boards such as the Council for Religious Freedom and Prison Fellowship Ministries. He has served as assistant to the president of Oakwood College in Huntsville, Alabama, and assistant to the president of Bowie State University in Bowie, Maryland.
Pastor Phipps has been the featured speaker and performer at many notable occasions around the world. He has sung for presidents Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, George H. W. Bush, William Jefferson Clinton, and George W. Bush at several of their prayer breakfasts.
He performed for both the 1984 and 1988 national Democratic conventions, Mother Teresa of Calcutta, Nelson Mandela, the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. television special, Dr. Robert Schuller’s “Hour of Power” telecast, the Billy Graham crusades, the Vatican, the Easter Seals Telethon, the Rosa Parks birthday celebration, and Diana Ross’s wedding ceremony in Switzerland.
Pastor Phipps has also presented lectures in Europe, Australia, Asia, Africa, and North and South America. He has performed on “Saturday Night Live” as well as “Sunday Live,” and has been the special guest on the “Oprah Winfrey Show” and CBS’s “Nightwatch.” Pastor Phipps was nominated for Grammy Awards in 1988
and 1989. He is author of The Power of a Dream (1996) and founder of Songs of Freedom Publishing Company and Coral Records Recording Company.
Pastor Phipps is married to Linda Diane Galloway Phipps, RN. They have three sons—Wintley Augustus II, Winston Adriel, and Wade Alexander.
Admission to the 4:00 p.m. concert is free and open to the public.
